Rufus Pinto, who has held country head roles in five markets across ANZ’s international network, has been appointed by ANZ as its country head of India.

He will report to Vishnu Shahaney, head of South East Asia, India and Middle East and Country Head, Singapore.

Pinto has been with ANZ since 2011 and is currently Country Head, Philippines. He was previously country head of Laos, Kiribati, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

Born and raised in India, Pinto moved to Australia in 2003, where held roles at major Australian banks including Westpac and NAB in Melbourne.

“We see enormous opportunity in India amid the strong economic recovery currently underway, and the upward trajectory in bilateral trade between Australia and India,” says ANZ Managing director, international Simon Ireland.

“In addition, our customers in India have significant investment and trade interests in South East Asia, therefore our international footprint means ANZ is well-positioned to support their growth across the region.”

Pinto’s appointment has been approved by the Reserve Bank of India.

He will be based in Mumbai and commences the role early next year.
