UNDP engages RFI to assist with development of guidance for integrating sound management of chemicals into MDG-based development planning
September 17, 2007 - UNDP has engaged RFI to assist its Energy and Environment Group with development and application of guidance to support integration of sound chemicals management within national development policies that are based upon the United Nations millennium development goals (MDGs) (see http://www.undp.org/chemicals/.)
RFI's guidance took kit is designed to assist UNDP country teams and national governments in the identification of opportunities to mainstream sound chemicals management in MDG-based policies and plans, whether these be Poverty Reduction Strategies or other "pro-poor" development strategies. Guidance includes "how-to" advice on development and application of diagnostic methods, and methods to identify policy options and areas for capacity enhancement consistent with the UNDP's core service areas.
The tool kit will be tested prior to final refinements during a series of 2007-2008 country-based UNDP-UNEP Partnership workshops on chemicals management under the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).
RFI's guidance will be provided as part of the UNDP's Integrated Package of Services (IPS), developed to assist partner countries to advance sustainable development through a holistic approach.
