MLC Life beefs up its team by hiring top new general manager

MLC Life Insurance has appointed Bozenna Hinton as its new general manager for its product, pricing, and retail insurance proposition, effective on May 03. 

In her new role, Hinton will report directly to chief life insurance officer Michael Rogers. As part of the life insurance leadership team, she will be responsible for ensuring the sustainability of MLC's life insurance portfolio, including the new income protection product set to launch later this year. 

Hinton joins MLC from TAL where she worked for six years firstly as head of actuarial (pricing and analytics), and more recently as head of portfolio management for individual life. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing the retail and direct businesses' commercial performance. 

With more than 20 years of experience in the life insurance industry, Hinton is the chair of the International Committee for the Actuaries Institute of Australia. She has also served as the chair of the International Actuarial Association (IAA) Education Committee since 2016. 

Hinton spent a big part of her career in actuarial consulting for Trowbridge Consulting, Reinsurance Group of America, Munich Re. She was a director at Ernst & Young for five years to 2015. 

Commenting on the appointment, Rogers said: “I'm delighted that Bozenna is joining us. She is a highly qualified and experienced insurance industry professional with a passion for driving great customer outcomes, backed by her extensive experience and expertise in several areas of life insurance. These attributes are especially important for us as we seek to enhance our customer and partner experiences, particularly in licensee and adviser markets.” 

In response, Hinton said she was excited to be joining MLC Life Insurance in this important role and critical time for the company. “I believe that we are well-positioned to take advantage of the many opportunities ahead of us, with a focus on improving the experience of customers, licensees, and advisers. I look forward to working with Michael Rogers and leading the product, pricing, and proposition team.”  

Other appointments 

Recently, MLC made two other senior appointments - Lesley Mamelok as general manager, finance and deputy chief financial officer, and Robert Baillie as general manager, capital management, and corporate finance. 

Mamelok would oversee the financial management and control of MLC Life which included the areas of expense management, investment control, tax, financial accounting, and reporting. She had worked in Australia and the UK and was formerly the CFO for Integrity Life, and for the past year had also been the company’s acting chief executive. Earlier, she held various positions with AMP for over 14 years, which included being CFO for AMP Bank and she continued to be a non-executive committee member of AMP Capital. 

Baillie will be responsible for the overall capital management of MLC Insurance which included treasury corporate finance business planning and reinsurance strategy.
