MLC Life continues its hiring spree

MLC Life Insurance has further beefed up its leadership team by appointing Andrew Beevors as its new head of claims reporting directly to the insurer’s chief executive, Rodney Cook.

In the role of chief claims officer, Beevors will be responsible for all aspects of claims handling and management and lead a team of more than 300 claims professionals.

He will replace Jane Dorter, who has been on secondment since April 2020 from her leadership role of KPMG’s insurance claims solutions and workplace health division.

Beevors has been employed in various roles within the insurance industry for the past 20 years.

Before joining MLC Life, he played a big role in modernising QBE’s Workers Compensation Claims model. More recently, he oversaw the overhaul of QBE’s general insurance claims offering.

Cook said the appointment will be important to help fulfil the insurer’s ambition to build the industry’s leading claims function.

“Our ambition is to be Australia’s leading and most trusted life insurer. What underpins that is delivering for our customers with speed, fairness, and empathy when they need it most – at claim time. He joins a team of experienced and empowered claims professionals and I look forward to him joining my leadership team,” he added.

 A string of senior people

Commenting on the appointment Beevors said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the MLC Life Insurance team as we continue our journey to improve customer and partner experience. It’s a great honour to work for such an iconic Australian life insurer and I look forward to working with our great Claims team as we continue to protect Australians when they need it most.”

The life insurer has hired a string of senior people in the last few months. They include Bozenna Hinton as its new general manager – product, pricing, and retail insurance proposition, Lesley Mamelok as general manager, finance and deputy chief financial officer, and Robert Baillie as general manager, capital management, and corporate finance. AIA Australia's former head of deal completion Piri Kularajah has also joined as head of profitability and performance reporting.

Earlier in the year, MLC Life named Michael Rogers as its new chief life insurance officer, Michael Downey as its new general manager for retail distribution partnerships, and Rick Wingfield as head of innovation.

MLC Life paid over $1.1 billion in claims last year and said it has the shortest claims processing times in the sector across a range of categories, including claims for death (super), total permanent disability (retail), income protection (retail), and consumer credit cover.
