Westpac has hired Guil Lima as chief executive of its newly creating business division, replacing Alastair Welsh who was acting in the role.

Lima joins the bank from HSBC in Hong Kong where he was in the job as group head of wealth management.

He has over 22 years’ experience in banking and consulting in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the US.

Prior to joining HSBC, Lima was partner in McKinsey’s financial services practice, where he led numerous engagements across a variety of commercial and retail banking businesses

“His background in leading strategic change on a global basis, as well as his domain expertise in banking and wealth, will be particularly valuable as we seek to grow the breadth of our customer relationships across the new Business division,” Westpac CEO Brian Hartzer said.

In March, Westpac announced an executive overhaul as part of its strategy to move the group’s wealth and insurance businesses into expanded business and consumer divisions.

Welsh who was the general manager of commercial banking took on the job as acting CEO.

“I’d like to thank Alastair Welsh for his contribution as acting CEO. Al is doing a great job managing the transition and ensuring the division continues to run smoothly,” Hartzer said in a statement.
