AIA announces senior hires

AIA Australia has made a number of internal appointments, hiring a new chief financial officer as well as creating two new senior roles: chief health insurance officer and chief strategy officer.

Michel Chernov has been appointed the chief financial officer for Australia and New Zealand. He joined the insurer in 2009, working in senior roles in actuarial, finance and strategy. During his 18-year career, Chernov has also worked for Munich RE in the United Kingdom and Deloitte.

Harry Efthimiou has been appointed the chief health insurance officer. He has been with AIA since 2010, including stints as chief financial officer and chief finance and strategy officer. He also spent eight years working at Aviva.

Tim Tez will be responsible for strategy, corporate affairs and government relations in the role of chief strategy officer. He was previously a key part of the AIA Australian team, from 2009 to 2014, as chief marketing officer.

“I am delighted to have Tim, Harry and Michael in their new roles. These members of our executive team are an excellent example of how we in AIA continually support our employees to grow professionally and personally with us,” AIA Australia and New Zealand, chief executive, Damien Mu (pictured) said.

“Tim, Harry and Michael are all well known to the AIA family, and each of them has played an instrumental role in delivering the significant growth we have achieved over the last few years,” he added.

“I know that they will use their deep industry knowledge and experience to capitalise on positive momentum from the recent past and take AIA’s business in Australia and New Zealand to the next level.”
