ANZ retained its top spot in the institutional banking market for the sixth year in a row winning plaudits from customers for providing support during the pandemic, according to a leading survey.
The 2021 Peter Lee Associates large corporate and institutional relationship banking survey revealed that fully 80 percent of respondents described ANZ’s support during the coronavirus as excellent or above average.
This is a one-off measure and was the largest difference between ANZ and other banks involved in the survey.
The banking survey put ANZ in first place for or outright and lead bank penetration with 74 percent of 500 respondents saying they have a relationship with the lender.
ANZ also maintained the highest lead bank penetration score of 39 percent, also ranking number one as lead provider in 10 of 13 product groups, according to Peter Lee Associates.
Leader in ESG
Strikingly, the bank was also rated the clear market leader in environmental social and governance (ESG) and sustainable finance.

The Peter Lee Associates large corporate and institutional relationship banking survey is a leading indicator of performance across wholesale banking in Australia. Some 590 Australia-based large corporate institutions were surveyed.
