The RBA has unveiled the design of the new $10 note, to be issued from September this year. The new $10 note will follow the same design and include the same features as the $5 note which was released late in 2016. Despite the new design, the $10 note still pay homage to Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Patterson.
The notes are part of the continual rollout of new currency which contain tactile bumps for the vision-impaired and a range of update security features meant to deter fraud and counterfeiting. RBA Governor, Phillip Lowe, noted counterfeiting technology had improved in recent years, becoming increasingly sophisticated.
The RBA has also been working closing with stakeholders to ensure that the new notes can be used in a broad range of day-to-day transactions, including machines that take or dispense notes.
