Canada: No more signatures at checkout for Discover customers

To speed up the time spent at checkout, customers will no longer be required to provide a signature for credit and debit card transactions on the Discover Global Network in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

The change comes as Discover continually attempts to improve the overall payment experience while upholding the necessary level of security for all parties involved in the transaction.

The removal of signatures at the point of sale follows the implementation of a number of digital authentication technologies such as biometrics, multi-factor authentication and tokenization that provide a higher level of security and require less time.

With the rise in new payment security capabilities, like chip technology and tokenization, the time is right to remove this step from the checkout experience,” said Jasma Ghai, Vice President of Global Products Innovation at Discover.
