Canada: RBC enable bill payments using Siri

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has become the first bank in Canada to enable bill payments using Siri on iPhone or iPad, with the payment being made through the RBC Mobile app once Siri confirms the payee name. Furthermore, RBC has launched Interac e-Transfer payments within iMessage, enabling customers to make a transfer without leaving their iMessage window.

These payment solutions are the latest developments from the RBC innovation labs aimed at enhancing customer experience of making payments and transferring money using mobile devices. Executive vice-president of Cards, Payments and Banking at RBC, Sean Amoto-Gauci, commented: "We're one of the leading voices on artificial intelligence in Canada, and our integration of Siri into bill payments and P2P transfers are an example of how our clients are already benefitting from these advancements in AI. We're committed to providing clients with exceptional experiences when, how and where it's most convenient for them, including exploring ways to integrate into social networks and digital platforms that are essential to their everyday lives."

The new initiatives are well timed, as according to RFi Group data, 21% of Canadians who make person-to-person (P2P) payments indicates that they would like to see a voice command feature such as Siri added to their P2P payment capabilities, while 18% states a preference for a messenger application such as iMessage.
