Canada: Shoppers Optimum and PC Plus loyalty programs to merge

PC Optimum is the new loyalty program launched by food retailer Loblaw and retail pharmacy chain Shoppers Drug Mart after merging its Shoppers Optimum and PC Plus Loyalty point programs.

Members of either program will be transferred onto the new points program from early February 2018, but members will retain their existing rewards points balance. Under the new program, members will be able to accrue points which can be spent on all chain locations both in-store and online.

Therefore, the PC Optimum program is facilitating the ease of accumulating points and maximizing spending choices at multiple locations across Canada. Senior Vice-President, Jim Noteboom, of Loblaw stated that the merge follows high consumer demand for an easy, all in one rewards program. Both firms also emphasized the decision had been an on-going discussion for several years.

With the merge allowing easier reward redemption, this could help further boost overall satisfaction, particularly with RFi Group data finding 74% of President’s Choice Financial top of wallet credit cardholders are very satisfied (8+/10) with their current rewards program, falling within the top 10 most satisfied attributes.
